Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) is the political wing of Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) which bagged third largest vote bank in general election of 2018 in Pakistan. It was the first time when TLP formally stepped into main stream politics. Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (Movement of Labbaik Pakistan) was first time registered with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in 2015 for the first time under the auspicious leadership of Allama Hafiz Khadim Hussain Rizvi.
A brief throwback from history
On martyrdom of Ghazi Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, an elite force constable who killed blasphemous Punjab governor while being part of his protocol squad, leadership of “Tehreek Rahaee Ghazi Mumtaz” (Freedom Movement for Malik Mumtaz Qadri) converted the name of the movement to “Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (Peace Be Upon Him)”. The founding manifesto of movement was to protect article 295-C of Pakistan Penal Code.
Pakistani politics, unfortunately dominated by liberals and seculars, never voiced in favor of safeguarding Islamic values in the state. Pseudo-religious parties, on the other hand, lent their support to far-left parties to be part of treasury benches. To be a real voice of Islam in the system, TLP decided to get it registered with ECP. It took part in general election of 2018 by fielding 561 candidates from all provinces of Pakistan. With such a huge nominations, burgeoning TLP astonished “all sectors”. According to statistics published by ECP after elections, it bagged third largest accumulative vote. TLP managed to win three provisional Sindh assembly seats in spite of its media black out. Along with media black out, TLP is still facing social media and website blocking by Pakistan government (old website tlyp.org was blocked by government during crack down against party in November 2018, which is the worst example of suppressing opposition by current government).
